If you’ve had your tractor stored away for the long winter season, it’s about time to pull your model out to get ready for the upcoming spring. However, your tractor won’t be field-ready straight out of the gate. Before you start up your engine and head out into the fields, be sure to give your model some important TLC to ensure it’s ready for the busy season.

Check Tires or Tracks

Whether you have tires or tracks on your tractor, you’ll need to inspect them carefully to avoid a flat tire or broken track. Make sure there are no foreign objects or any obvious damages, and that there’s plenty of tread to get you through mud and loose dirt in your model. Tires have the tendency to go flat in cold weather, so be sure to check the air pressure in each one before you head out into the fields.

Lube Moving Parts

Disuse can do a real number on equipment, causing your tractor to be slow and difficult to maneuver come spring. To avoid this, take a moment to lube up all of your tractor’s moving parts—including the bearings, hitch, and any implements or attachments you may have on your machinery.

Oil & Fuel

If you didn’t complete an oil change before you placed your tractor into winter storage, it’s incredibly important that you complete one now. Your oil is likely dirty and thick in its current state, and you’ll want to have it flushed completely to ensure your tractor’s engine runs well. We also recommend flushing your fuel tank, as the gas currently in the tanks has likely gone stale.
