Tractors are a staple of farms across the country, and it’s hard to imagine modern farming being successful without them. But tractors are also big, heavy machines that require you to be responsible about operating them, in order to keep yourself and others safe. Here are our top tractor safety tips.

Dress the Part

Wearing the wrong garments when using your tractor can put you in real danger. You should avoid any draping or loose clothing with long cords or ties. Close-fitting clothes that protect your skin are best, along with boots that have the laces tucked in and work gloves. A pair of goggles isn’t a bad idea if your tractor lacks an enclosed cab, to keep debris out of your eyes.

Operate With Care

Before you get in your tractor, it’s a good idea to inspect it to make sure nothing needs to be addressed. You should always alert anyone around you when you’re about to operate the tractor in the area so that no one is in the way. Stay vigilant and alert while you’re in the tractor and don’t go too quickly or move the tractor recklessly. Make sure the engine is completely turned off before departing the cab.
